Give a Gift – Safe Births in Haiti

About this Gift

Haiti is the country with the highest maternal mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere totaling 480 deaths out of every 100,000 live births. With limited financial resources and poor care in hospitals, 74% of women in La Plaine, Haiti, delivered at home assisted by untrained midwives. Access to safer prenatal and birthing practices is crucial for both infants and mothers. For this reason, Partners in Development started the Midwife Training Program in Haiti, which trains women in safe and sterile at home birthing practices, so that they can work as midwives. This program provides the education and includes a sterile birthing kit for the midwives to keep and use for the births they assist with. A gift of Safe Births in Haiti will give hundreds of women in Haiti access to prenatal care and safer birthing practices, ultimately improving Haiti’s maternal mortality rate.
